The Azerbaijan Carpet Museum

The Azerbaijan Carpet Museum is one of the most important cultural institutions in Azerbaijan, dedicated to preserving and promoting the country’s centuries-old carpet weaving tradition. It was established in 1967, becoming the first museum in the world focused specifically on carpets and textile art.

The museum is famous for its distinctive building, designed in the shape of a rolled carpet, which was completed in 2014 and has become a modern architectural landmark in Baku. Its collection includes over 10,000 items, with carpets from different historical periods and regions of Azerbaijan, each reflecting unique weaving schools, patterns, and techniques.

In addition to carpets, the museum also preserves examples of traditional clothing, embroidery, metalwork, ceramics, and jewelry, offering a wider perspective on Azerbaijani decorative arts. The exhibits are arranged both chronologically and by regional styles, helping visitors understand the development of carpet-making across the country.

Today, the museum also conducts research, restoration work, and international exhibitions, making it not only a display space but also an active center for the study of carpet art and cultural heritage.
