Nizami Museum of Azerbaijani Literature

The Nizami Museum of Azerbaijani Literature is one of Baku’s most important cultural institutions, dedicated to preserving and showcasing the country’s literary heritage. It is located in a historic building in the city center, originally constructed in the 19th century, and is named after the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi.

The museum was officially established in 1939 and today holds a large collection of manuscripts, rare books, personal archives, portraits, and memorabilia connected to Azerbaijani writers and poets. Its exhibits cover the development of Azerbaijani literature from medieval times to the modern period, with a special focus on classical and contemporary literary figures.

The building itself is architecturally notable, with a decorated façade featuring statues of famous Azerbaijani literary figures. Inside, the museum presents a structured exhibition that allows visitors to follow the evolution of literature in the country in a clear, chronological way.

With its combination of historical architecture and rich literary collections, the museum is an essential destination for those interested in Azerbaijan’s cultural and intellectual history.
