It was founded in 1936 as part of the Azerbaijan State Museum and became an independent museum in 1937. In 1943, it was named after artist Rustam Mustafayev, and in 2011 it received national museum status.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"361\" data-end=\"591\">Today, the museum is located in two historic buildings \u2212 the De Bura Palace and the Mariinskaya Women\u2019s Gymnasium \u2212 connected by a modern glass passage. Its collection includes around 18,000 works of Azerbaijani and international art.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"593\" data-end=\"829\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">The museum also hosts exhibitions, cultural projects, and educational events, along with lectures and presentations in its event halls.
