Upper Caravanserai — A Journey Along the Silk Road

The Upper Caravanserai is a remarkable monument that tells the story of Sheki’s important role on the historic Silk Road. Built in the 18th century, the caravanserai provided accommodation and security for merchants, travelers, and their valuable goods as they passed through Sheki.

Its massive stone walls, large entrance and traditional architectural details give visitors a sense of what life was like when Sheki was a busy center of international trade. Walking through the historic complex, travelers can imagine merchants arriving with silk, spices, textiles and other goods from distant lands. Today, the Upper Caravanserai remains one of the best places to experience the atmosphere of old Sheki.
