National Museum of History of Azerbaijan

The National Museum of History of Azerbaijan is one of the largest museum in the country, established in 1920. It is located in the former mansion of Azerbaijani oil magnate and philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev, a late 19th-century building that is itself part of the museum complex.

The museum’s collection includes over 300,000 exhibits, covering periods from prehistoric times to the present day. Visitors can explore archaeological discoveries, traditional clothing, weapons, coins, manuscripts, and everyday objects that reflect the rich cultural and historical development of Azerbaijan.

Alongside its permanent displays, the museum conducts scientific research, publishes academic materials, and hosts temporary exhibitions and educational events. It plays a key role in preserving and presenting the historical heritage of Azerbaijan.
