Ramana Castle – A Medieval Fortress of Absheron
Ramana Castle is a historic medieval fortress located on an elevated point in the village of Ramana, offering a distinctive view of the surrounding Absheron landscape. The castle is traditionally associated with the period of the Shirvanshahs and is believed to have served primarily defensive purposes.
Built from local limestone, the fortress features a strong square-shaped tower, fortified walls and narrow openings characteristic of medieval defensive architecture. Its elevated position allowed the castle to serve as an observation point and part of the wider defensive system of Absheron.
Ramana Castle is also notable for its connection with Azerbaijani cinema, as several famous historical films were filmed at the fortress.
